OUR FAMILY FUN TIMES

NLC’s fun times are just that – FUN!  They give us a chance to build relationships and enjoy each other in an informal context where everyone from the youngest to the oldest gets to participate in a way that brings us together as a family.  Our “Fun Connection” ministry team plans and carries out these special times throughout the year and we all look forward to their endless creativity and commitment to ensuring a joyful and uplifting time for the church.  Check out some of the highlights of these times over the years!

JESUS CHANGES EVERYTHING

Almost twenty years ago, my wife of less than three years was unexpectantly taken home by God at the age of 26. Though many would have been overcome by depression, my faith was already strong, and I had hope in something much bigger than this life. Jesus didn’t just comfort me in my grief – He gave me the faith to overcome the mountain ahead.

There was a time that I thought doing acts of kindness what was God wanted, but I that experience wasn’t changing my heart. I was the same selfish person. I had no relationship with God, I was busy doing things but I was not getting to know God or experience a change inside. Today, I’m grateful – I know the living God. He knows me and He extends His hand to me, and He does not condemn me. Daily Jesus changes me. I now know He loves me.

When I was young I believed that I knew a lot. My knowledge came from things I read, saw, heard, experienced and especially things that I felt. I didn’t give much thought as to whether these things were true or not, whether they were verifiable, whether I could identify their source, whether my memory was accurate. Of course they were true! I believed them.

As I grew older, I questioned what I believed. I saw that so-called truth was based on half truths, opinions formed from biases, false information, gossip and outward lies. Everyone seemed to have their own version of truth.

Thankfully, I was introduced to the source of all truth, Jesus Christ. By His grace I was saved and gradually I learned that I knew very little. Jesus said “I am the way, and the truth and the life. As I now walk in His truth, I can filter the information that bombards all of us daily, through the Word of God and, through wise brothers and sisters. The Holy Spirit guides me and reminds me to be discerning and careful. I’ve learned that feelings cannot always be trusted and the most important knowledge that I could ever have is knowing God. I want to know Him more each day that I have left to live
